Catfish habits

Catfish mainly live in the middle and lower layers of rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and ponds, and are mostly active in coastal areas. During the day, they are mostly hidden in grasses, stones or deep water bottoms, and they frequently forage at night. After the autumn, they lived in deep water or in the sludge to overwinter, and their feeding degree was also weakened. Carnivorous fish, the prey are mostly small fish, such as meal strips, crucian carp, goby, wheat ear fish, carp, loach, etc., and also eat shrimp and aquatic insects. The main function of the teeth is to prevent food from escaping.
 
It is a nocturnal animal, and it hides quietly in pits at the bottom of rivers or under tree roots during the day. Feeding large, large species such as the Danube catfish will attack small water birds or mice, and the bottom ferocious fish. They are afraid of light and like to live in rock crevices, deep pits, earth or stone caves at the bottom of tree roots, and slow-moving waters.
 
In the still water of reservoirs, ponds, lakes, and weirs, it is often found in the dark bottom layer or under pieces of water lotus, water peanut and water hyacinth. Active in spring, foraging. They do not eat after entering, lurking in deep waters or caves for the winter, and generally do not swim if there is nothing to invade.
 
Catfish have small eyes, weak eyesight, nocturnal and nocturnal. They hunt by smell and two pairs of tentacles. They are very gluttonous. Catfish have a strong ability to adapt to the environment, and their lifespan can reach more than 70 years. Sexual maturity is early, usually at one age. The spawning period in the Yangtze River area is from April to June, the earlier it goes south, the later it goes north. When spawning, they chase in groups. Similar to Darwin's frogs, male catfish also hold the eggs laid by female catfish in their mouths to hatch small catfish. The difference is that male catfish cannot eat during this period. Juvenile fish feed on zooplankton and mollusks, and larvae of aquatic insects and shrimp are its delicacies.
 
Catfish are gluttonous, juveniles of about 500 grams will swallow a large number of crucian carp, carp and so on. Suitable for living in waters with a water temperature of 20 ~ 25°C. Generally, there are no scales on the body, the surface of the body is mucus, there is a flat head and a large mouth, and there are four whiskers on the upper and lower jaws, which are long at the top and short at the bottom.
